Hungary invests in relations with Turkey.
Hungarian foreign minister Péter Szijjártó travelled on Tuesday to the Turkish capital to visit the future 3,000 square metre building site of a new embassy in a sign of strengthening relations with Turkey.
“The construction of the new 3,000 square metre embassy building in Ankara has begun,” Szijjártó announced on his Facebook page, where he also shared a photo of the construction, Telex reported.
Szijjártó said that Turkey could play an important mediating role “in the hopeful conclusion of the war in Ukraine”.
Szijjártó also met with Turkish trade minister Mehmet Musand to sign an agreement on a new Hungarian-Turkish Economic and Trade Committee.
Trade between the two countries was up 15% compared to 2020, totalling $4 billion.
Szijjártó also said Hungary would provide €37.6 billion in support for the Kaposvár investment of the Turkish glass manufacturer Sisecam, which the government hopes will create 320 new jobs.
Furthermore, at the end of the year, a government programme will help Hungarian companies to enter the Turkish market in the fields of power plant construction, water management and printing, while Hungary’s Eximbank is ready to support further Hungarian-Turkish business cooperation with a €105 million credit line, Szijjártó wrote on Facebook.
