International News Agency Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) Rector, Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, welcomed Hungarian diplomats at the entrance. Providing information about the university, Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik stated, “Founded in 1911, our university continues to shine as Turkey’s star with 41,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students across 11 faculties, as well as Turkey’s largest technopark.”
The signing ceremony of the international education and research cooperation protocol between Budapest University of Technology (BME) and Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) took place at Istanbul’s Davutpaşa campus. The event was attended by Hungarian Consul General in Istanbul, Dr. Attila Pintér, Honorary Consul of Hungary Osman Şahbaz, Director of the Hungarian Cultural Center Áron Sipos, Cultural Attaché Máté Gergő Kovács, YTÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz, and Chief Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Özer Çınar.
The support for the academic partnership between Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and Yıldız Technical University came from Istanbul’s Honorary Consul of Hungary, Osman Şahbaz. Having a significant place in Europe and worldwide, Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) was originally established in 1782 as József Nádor University of Technology and was renamed in 1949.
Honorary Consul Osman Şahbaz shared that during his visit to Budapest University of Technology and Economics, its Rector, Prof. Dr. Charaf Hassan, expressed great satisfaction in establishing an education, research, and international cooperation partnership with Yıldız Technical University and sent his regards. Osman Şahbaz stated, “I am pleased to contribute to this valuable cooperation on behalf of my university and Hungary.”

Prof. Dr. Debik emphasized that under this cooperation, academic and student exchange programs, joint research projects, academic publications, international seminars, scientific events, and joint ventures in technology and innovation would be implemented. “This protocol marks a new step in our university’s internationalization goals, and we believe it will add value to the academic ecosystems of both countries,” said Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik. He also extended his gratitude to YTÜ alumnus and Honorary Consul Osman Şahbaz for his valuable contributions in facilitating this international collaboration.”
2025: The Year of Hungarian-Turkish Science and Innovation Will Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
Hungarian Consul General in Istanbul, Dr. Attila Pintér, delivered a speech at the event, stating, “We bring you an international cooperation letter from Budapest University of Technology and Economics Rector Prof. Dr. Charaf Hassan. I have served in the former Yugoslavia for many years, with my last four years as Ambassador in Belgrade. Now, I serve as Consul General in Istanbul. This valuable protocol aims to strengthen the cultural, social, and academic ties between the two countries.”
Consul General Dr. Attila Pintér expressed his strong belief that this collaboration would significantly contribute to reinforcing the friendly relations between Hungary and Turkey on an academic level. “2024 was declared the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year, and we have worked hard to foster cultural exchange. This year, 2025, has been designated as the Year of Hungarian-Turkish Science and Innovation, further solidifying our partnership. I sincerely thank you for your kind hospitality,” he concluded.

During the visit, in addition to the protocol between the universities, Hungarian diplomats also discussed other potential collaborations and joint projects before departing from the university.
